Things to do in Moreton Bay by boat

Let’s start with Redcliffe and the Bayside Region. Walk along the Redcliffe Jetty, go shore fishing or kayaking at Scarborough Beach (previous winner of Queensland’s Friendliest Beach) or have a dip at family-friendly swimming spots like Settlement Cove Lagoon, Suttons Beach and Margate Beach. The Woody Point Jetty offers a vantage point for a sunset that’s rare to see on the Australian east coast.

Just a 25-minute drive from Redcliffe is Bribie Island, the only Queensland island connected to the mainland by a bridge. Sail the stunningly clear waters of Pumicestone Passage, a 35km channel that touches Bribie Island, Caloundra and Deception Bay. It’s here you’ll see dolphins, dugongs and turtles, and plenty of bird life. Fishing is also popular on Bribie Island - anglers, just make sure you know the 'green zones' for fishing before you go.

Moreton Island is another island gem of the Moreton Bay Marine Park. It's the third largest sand island in the world, with long stretches of beach and bush, and a beautiful array of native wildlife. It's well-known for its snorkelling and diving sites like the Tangalooma Wrecks (pictured at the top of this page), a truly epic artificial reef that's teeming with marine life.

In Southern Moreton Bay, North Stradbroke Island (or "Straddie") is another beloved weekend and holiday spot for its surf beaches, camping spots, freshwater lakes and sleepy villages that make you feel far from the rest of the world.

Whale watching in Moreton Bay is some of the best in the world. For a spectacular sight, visit from June to October to see humpback whales migrating up to the tropical waters of the Great Barrier Reef.

And finally, while you're here, enjoy the world-class seafood. Our pick? Moreton Bay Bugs, of course! Eat them on board your private charter and have a "cheers" while you're at it.
