Who is responsible for boat insurances?

Before creating a Listing, a host should determine if renting out their boat is covered by insurance for the Flotespace Services. The host is solely responsible for ensuring that they have the right insurance. Flotespace is not responsible for obtaining insurance or recommending any insurance to you. Not having insurance can leave you exposed to significant financial liability. You should ensure that whatever insurance you obtain is suitable for your purposes.

Does Flotespace accept Charter Vessels?

Yes. If a boat is in commercial survey and has the correct level of certification and insurances, it may be listed and operated as a charter vessel.

Can I take the boat out for a cruise?

The rental agreement is for use of the boat while in a marina unless it is in commercial survey and a correctly certified charter vessel. The boats are not permitted to move unless they are charter vessels in survey with a licence’d captain.  Please email getonboard@flotespace.com to inquire about this.

How will I know what I can and can’t do when I get on board?

The boat owner, or their representative, will meet you at the marina or near the boat and will familiarise you with all aspects of the boat to maximise your enjoyment on board.

Are there showers and toilets on board?

Usually yes, but it’s preferable to use onshore facilities whenever they are available. Most marinas have rules regarding use of toilets and showers for docked boats so make sure you check when you arrive with the boat owner or their representative.

How do payments work?

Guests (Renters) can make payment using Paypal (you do not require a Paypal account to make payment) or your credit card when you book, and the payment is held by us until the booking is successfully completed.

Is the boat insured if anything happens?

It is the responsibility of the boat owner to have the correct insurance that covers their boat being rented on Flotespace. Please ensure you have thoroughly checked your insurance policy and confirm that it is the correct cover required.

What if I want to cancel my booking?

The cancellation policy that is part of our standard rental agreement is for at least 7 days notice to cancel without incurring a cancellation fee. Find out more about our cancellation policy here. We understand that things happen and sometimes plans have to change, but we need to consider the impact on our boat owners if they are given short notice of a cancellation.

Are Flotespace able to advise me on how to improve my ad as a boat owner?

The owner of the boat is responsible for ensuring their posting is accurate and has the boat looking its best. Please email getonboard@flotespace.com for more information.

Who is responsible for identifying, understanding and complying with all laws, that apply to Listing a boat and making it available for hire?

The host is solely responsible for identifying, understanding and complying with all laws that apply to listing a boat and making it available for hire. For example, some jurisdictions have restrictions on the commercial or business use of a boat.

Do we require life jackets?

The boat owner is required to provide all of the necessary safety equipment. We advise that life jackets are worn at all times when on the vessel.

Will we get sea sick?

It is likely that the boat may move slightly with the natural movement of water, however generally these are areas of minimal swell.

How do we know the boat owner is responsible and providing a safe vessel?

Flotespace aim to ensure the boat owners are listing accurate representations of their boats. Should you have any concerns, please contact us immediately at getonboard@flotespace.com

Are we allowed to start the engine?

The engine of the boat must only be operated by the rightful owner or a designated and fully qualified captain. Guest are not allowed to operate the boat outside these terms.

Can we swim and jump off the boat?

Flotespace advise you do not swim or leave the vessel other than by the designated marina. Flotespace take no responsibility for the safety of anyone wishing to swim or leave the vessel outside these terms.

Can we fish from the boats in the marinas?

It is important to review the fish friendly marina information and to respect marinas which do not allow fishing.

Where do we leave our litter?

It is the responsibility of the guest (renter) to remove all litter from the vessel unless otherwise instructed by the owner.

What are the hours of operation for day stays?

Operating hours for day stays are at the discretion of the boat owner however standard operating hours are 8.30am to 5.30pm.

Is it possible to book charter vessels?

Yes, as long as the charter vessel has the relevant safety rating, is in commercial survey and is operated by the licensed captain responsible for the boat. Please note, it is the responsibility of the charter operator to ensure they are covered correctly with regard to insurance.

Does it get cold onboard the boats at night?

Boats can be cooler onboard at night, given the nature of their surroundings, yet many have heating facilities. During the colder months, we advise extra clothing to maximise comfort while onboard.

Who is responsible for loss and damages on the boat?

Hosts can choose to add damage cover which will be charged to the renter if they have damaged the boat. Hosts are responsible for ensuring that they are protected against loss or damage caused by renters or their guests to their boat and are encouraged to check their insurance.

Who is responsible for ensuring my boat is sea worthy, safe to be on the water and for liability cover?

You are responsible for ensuring that your boat is seaworthy and safe for people to use. You may be exposed to liability if someone is injured on your boat. A list of accredited surveyors can be found here

What should I do if I am unsure of how laws apply to my listing?
